What Parents Say
Alex has shown a change in his work in the class. From a somewhat passive worker he has become actively involved in the class. His speech has improved. He communicates more and he now has a very good relationship with the class.
Comments of Alex O. teacher. Spain.
I thought I would let you know how Alex is progressing in the two weeks since our visit he has gained 40 new words which is wonderful. There is a big variety of words from plug to Yorkshire! I am delighted with his progress. He certainly is happier since his treatment, he now plays with his brother rather than alongside him and has a better understanding of what is expected of him.

I have definitely new hearing now as really I should have known that the noises I was hearing were not normally heard by other people. I cannot describe the yells and screeches I used to hear that went into my ears and the other sounds that squawked when I was not expecting them. Life is so different that I feel like a person from another planet, bopping down to earth for a change of scene. I do hope I can keep on this planet as the sounds here are quiet and restful and I can hear what is going on even when there are people around me. I feel as though a host of thistles have been taken off my ears, thistles that were stifling the words people were saying.

It was lovely meeting you all. We enjoyed our visit and Jody said that she was glad she went. She has been telling us that everything is quieter, it sounds different and new and it doesn't hurt her ears now. She said that the wind blowing on the windows doesn't frighten her any more.

Within the first week we began to notice small improvements in our son's behaviour and now 12 weeks later we are gradually getting school reports of a positive nature that a year ago we would not have believed possible. Increased concentration, improved verbal communication and better adaptability to change.

When Jonathan is out with us he doesn't race ahead any more but walks beside us. He stops at the traffic lights and waits for the green man instead of running on ahead. He has a very happy smile on his face now. He has continued to say more words and his nursery teacher nearly collapsed when he wanted her to lift him up onto the climbing frame and he said, "me up."

I think that one of the most noticeable differences in Alysia is that she wants to be around people more. She used to be quite content to go off into another room and we would have to go looking for her. Now she demands our attention and if she wants to play with something that is upstairs she will tell us, Mummy come here or Daddy come on and hold out her hand for one of us to join her. Even when doing a solitary task such as a jigsaw puzzle she wants us to be part of it.
In the last few weeks since the treatment Alysia's speech therapist was amazed that she would point to things when asked and she commented that Alysia was no longer talking into the air but was talking directly to me. She isn't cured and we still have a way to go but I can see the little girl I had before the age of 15 months more and more each day. It's like watching a little bud blooming into a beautiful flower.

Since we came back home Haitham's class teacher noticed that he was much calmer during the first week back at school. I have noticed a great improvement in his understanding.
There is no doubt that his sensitivity to sound is much improved. He no longer covers his ears at normal classroom noises and perhaps the most significant change was reported by his ice skating instructor. Before the treatment Haitham kept to the side of the rink. He refused to join in with the rest of the group and it was worrying to see him so isolated. Of course the ice rink is a very noisy place, the sounds echo around it and seem to amplify. After the treatment Haitham asked to join in the beginners class. The teacher was stunned by his friendliness and ability to follow instructions with the rest of the group. From being a withdrawn, rather fearful little boy he began to really enjoy the lessons and fully participates in all the activities now.

Following our two week course our son's hearing became markedly less sensitive and he became more sociable and interactive. We were very satisfied with the whole experience.

Jack is doing very well especially with his understanding and since we have been home after his AIT PLUS treatment he has not had even one of his stiff-leg frustration bouts. These bouts of frustration would happen at least once a day. He is a lot brighter and confident and even cheeky and this has been noticed by other people too.

It is now possible to take Peter to places we could not before. He could not handle fun fairs, he used to cover his ears and scream. Now he loves them and enjoys them like other children do. Noises that frightened him before don't bother him anymore.

Phillipe speaks which he did not do before. He reads every sentence put in front of him. He sings like a bird and most of all he looks at you straight in the face which he never did before. We feel this is all due to his treatment in London.
